Mount Clemens (Michigan) – In a shocking incident on September 13, 27-year-old Morgan Catton from Mount Clemens experienced a harrowing attack while making her way to a friend’s home in Detroit.
According to WXYZ, After being inadvertently dropped off by her Uber a few blocks away from her destination, Catton decided to walk the remaining distance while engaged in a phone conversation with a friend.
Familiar with the Detroit area, Catton had intended to spend the night at her friend’s place rather than drive back to Mount Clemens late at night. However, her plans took a terrifying turn when she was approached by a man on a bicycle.
As she navigated the sidewalk near Hazelwood Street and 14th Street, Catton noticed the man approaching. In a moment of concern for her safety, she stepped aside, expecting him to pass. Instead, the man stopped, dismounted, and unexpectedly lunged at her.
Catton recounted, “When he got close to me, he grabbed me by the neck and threw me to the ground, where he repeatedly punched me in the face.” The assailant, described as a man in his 40s, approximately 5-foot-8, escaped on the same bike after the brutal attack.
Detroit police say the incident was completely random.
The police have characterized the assault as a random act of violence. “There were no words exchanged,” Catton explained, expressing her disbelief at how quickly the situation escalated. “It happened so fast. I thought I was going to die.”
Following the attack, Catton was taken to a hospital, where she received multiple stitches around her mouth and eye. Despite her injuries, she expressed gratitude for being alive. “I’m just thankful to be here,” she stated, adding that her experience serves as a wake-up call for others.
The incident has left the local community reeling, particularly in the normally peaceful area near Gordon Park. Residents voiced their shock at the violence, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and safety measures.
Catton is using her experience to advocate for women’s safety, encouraging others to utilize the buddy system when walking alone at night and to consider carrying personal protection devices. “I have a sick feeling in my stomach that if they don’t find him, he could do this again,” she warned.

The Detroit Police Department is actively investigating the incident. They urge anyone with information regarding the assault to reach out to the 10th Precinct at 313-596-1000.
This unsettling event serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and safety, especially for those navigating unfamiliar environments late at night.
